Jewellery as wearable Sculpture and Object
My jewellery reflects a fascination for miniature worlds found within the natural landscape, from exotic jungle flora to the humble rock pool. My obsession with geology drives me to select the most interesting and unusual gemstone specimens. I compose unique settings sympathetic to a gemstone’s individual character re-imagining the natural landscape and dynamic crystalline structures from which it was discovered.
Vividly contrasting precious metals and naturally sculpted gemstones create sumptuous, other-worldly qualities.
My passion for travel is reflected in my work. Born into a large family who span the globe from Asia to north America, I am drawn towards discovery and exploration. I am intrigued by the ambiguity of form. Each piece I create is ultimately a product of my imagination - an abstract composition which quietly provokes the observer to look more closely, reflect on my journeys and the natural curiosities which have inspired me.

2018 ‘Tudor Glass Coral Reef’ a piece made by Laura Ngyou and designed by Romilly Saumarez-Smith is acquired by the V&A Museum for their permanent collection.
2017 Highly commended in the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Awards for her ‘Speleo Opal’ necklace.
2013 Display of a hand engraved, chased and raised silver dish in the V&A Museum’s ‘Inspiration from the Archives’ exhibition.
2012 The award of a Goldsmiths’ Company bursary to create a piece of silverware inspired by the movement of water.
